Definition
An online database is an electronically stored collection of data (bibliographic, numerical or statistical) available to users at remote sites.
Database Hosts
At The University of the West Indies, commercial databases covering the various disciplines taught are made available through subscriptions and are accessed onsite at the library. Some of the major database hosts are:
• EBSCOHost
• OCLC FirstSearch
• Emerald
• Engineering Village
Subject Specific Databases
There are a multitude of subject specific databases which are available. Examples of these are:
• AGRIS for Agriculture
• Bireme for Medical Sciences and Health
