MODULE 7 - Managing references
What is a Citation?

To "cite" is to point to evidence, authority or proof. When we use the term cite we refer to the way that you note the source of your information in the body of your text.

Sources of Information:
Sources of information can be classified into two broad types, printed and electronic. Some examples of printed and electronic sources of information are indicated below:

Printed Sources
Books
Journal articles
Conference Papers
Standards
Patents
Reports
Government Publications
Unpublished material

Electronic Sources
Web pages
Electronic books
Electronic journals
Listservs

There are many Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) surrounding the issue of citations, and we will deal with some of those in the next stage of this module.
